Virtual Whaling Voyage

In the 19th Century, sailors from all over the world scoured the oceans in search of whales to fuel the needs of the Industrial Revolution. While these magnificent creatures are no longer hunted as they once were, an understanding of where we have been is essential for understanding where we are today. The LAHA "Virtual Whaling Voyage", a program that combines authentically costumed performers, the songs and shanties of the sailors, hands on participation and guided "make believe"; provides children with a unique insight into what whaling really meant for the men, and the whales, who endured it.

This program was originally developed for the LA County Natural History Museum "Discovery Center", and has, since 1996, been a regular feature in the Pt. Mugu State Park annual Whale Festival.
